Julia Fiona Roberts born to Betty Lou Bredemus (mother) and Walter Grady Roberts on October 28, 1967. Her family is the fourth Roberts family to have been a resident of Atlanta. It began with her great-grandfather John Pendleton Roberts who was an agriculturalist. Early in his life the father of her mother became obsessed by the acting. He performed on the Emory University campus in 1952 and in other productions that were staged around Atlanta. He joined the air force in 1953. While working in Biloxi Mississippi, he was a part of an army production that featured Betty Lou Bredemus who was part of the air force. They married in 1955. Their child, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter was a student at Tulane University at New Orleans In 1957, the city of Louisiana where the couple left the US Air Force. Walter was employed as a technician by Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio to assist on the stage of the show Bum Bum and His Buddies. The show was filmed in Decatur Georgia. In 1964, Walter and Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's TV show named Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. They also founded the Actors and Writers Workshop in that same year. It lasted about six years. During this time they had two more youngsters Lelisa (called Lisa) Billingsley in the year 1965, and Julia (called Julie) in 1967.
