She has covered sports for some of some of the most prominent media around the globe. She spent almost a decade covering various sports on behalf of The Washington Post, including football, tennis, and basketball. Nichols has won two Emmy Awards during her nine-year period at ESPN as well as being featured on the most watched shows such as NFL Countdown or SportsCenter, moved to ESPN following 2004. Additionally, she worked as an anchor for Monday Night Football on the network. Next was CNN, and then Turner Sports. The first show she created and hosted was self-titled, Unguarded together with Rachel Nichols, and aired every week on CNN and CNN International. It boasted over a billion viewers around the world. During this time Nichols reported on TNT's NBA broadcasts, including the regular season, playoffs and All-Star broadcast teams. Nichols also worked for TBS reporting on golf and baseball broadcasts as well as Final Four broadcasts on CBS. The only woman to have been chosen from more than two hundred nominees in the long history of the honor.
